Haks for feats like Daring Outlaw

I have been playing on a server called Island of Zara that is attempting to remain true to PnP D&D, and the builder/creator there has many mods/haks of his own. I have been pressing him to add Kaedrin’s Hak Pack, but he is concerned that it will seriously mess with many of the custom mods he has already implemented. He might be right. First, is there any advice on this topic? How do you know? What causes conflicts?

Second, He is willing to add some of the feats that Kaedrin has brought in, such as Daring Outlaw, but he is not sure how. How would one go about adding a feat like Daring Outlaw? If that is a challenge, is there a way to just make it automatic once you have three levels of both rogue and swashbuckler?

I have read an old post where someone asked if there was a way to add the entire Hak Pack but turn everything else off except Daring Outlaw. That seems excessive, and Kaedrin replied by saying that would be very hard to do. But is there a stand alone Hak for the Daring Outlaw feat? That would be awesome. And I think it would be very popular, indeed. How hard would it be to make a few downloadable Haks for feats like Daring Outlaw?

Can someone help point me in the right direction? Even if it is toward a different forum, I would love to be able to take something useful back to the The Island of Zara. And I know there are countless other players out there that would love to have a stand-alone Daring Outlaw hak. I am working with an administrator has an open mind about the feat—and even some talent with making his own modifications—but some guidance or direction would be awesome.

You aren't going to like the answer to this but it isn't worth either my time or his time to try and extract a single feat from my pack. He's much better off adding a new feat to his content and then adding a small amount of script to check for the feat (and grant the sneak dice that way). FAR less work for both of us. I also think you vastly overestimate how many people want a single feat in a stand-alone package. It doesn't help sell your case.

I will see if he has done any work adding custom feats. I know he just worked with the script getting bleeding down to -10.

Even a simple sentence from someone who has become an expert at something can help out someone just getting started, so thank you.

In my efforts to find a Daring Outlaw hak independent of your package, I came across a few other posts where people were wanting the feat as a separate download. As a teacher I have learned that when a smart student raises her hand to ask a question, more than half of the class needs the answer to that question as well. So for every person that actually takes the time to post about something, how many other people desire the same thing but never ask for it? Ten? One hundred?

I accept that making one might not be worth your time, especially when you have your larger product. And truly, I am here on this forum because I have been enjoying your work on other servers over the past few years and have become accustomed to having it, perhaps taking it for granted, even. Odds are that if the creator put his mind to it, he could learn how to add the feat. He says he has never added a feat before, so he will have to learn how to do it.

The thread below was what led me to wonder if there might be a strong desire for a stand-alone Daring Outlaw feat. I have been playing rogue/ranger builds for so many years that the rogue/swashbuckler character is fresh and exciting, but playing one without the daring outlaw feat is kind of like playing a ranger without all of the cool ranger special abilities. But that is exactly why that feat was added.

I am feeling like I need to learn how to do it and then send detailed instructions for the creator of the server, but I would be truly starting from ground zero in terms of modding. Anyway, below is the thread I found before I posted here. So there are at least two of us.

Hi there, I have a quick question for Kaedrin or anyone else knowledgeable about his pack — I very much enjoy Kaedrin's PRC pack but I'd like to only use the Daring Outlaw feat and nothing else at the moment. I've been trying to isolate the files necessary for Daring Outlaw in the PRC pack (I've looked all through the cmi_feats folder) but I can't seem to find it. Is it even possible to do what I have in mind, and, if so, could you please tell me where the Daring Outlaw feat file(s) are located? Thanks!
p.s. — Once I locate the files, will anything be necessary to make the feat useable apart from putting the requisite files into the My Documents/Neverwinter Nights 2/Override folder?

Don't PICK other K feats than Daring Outlaw?
This kinda reminds me of the nwn1 prc pack or whatever… There are these overpowered races like illithids with no level adjustment nor monster hit dice and if you pick them you pretty much ruin the game for yourself but if you don't then you're just intentionally choosing a weak character for no benefit.

Well, the thing is with so many PRCS it can be hard to tell what's 'core' NWN2 and what's part of the pack. Plus the pack also makes changes to many bases classes, feats, spells, etc. I would rather not use those as I'm not familiar with the changes and I don't want to take the time to be. I just want Daring Outlaw available to my Rogue/Swashbuckler. Could anyone familiar with the pack (hopefully Kaedrin? ) help me by telling me what file names are associated with that feat alone and what (if anything) I have to do special to use just that one feat? Thanks!

It would require a substantial amount of work to turn everything but that off.

Or zero. You are making a pretty large leap in logic there.

It would be nigh unto impossible (or, at the very least, unreasonable) for Kaedrin to yank any given feat out of his content because one person asked for it. Then he would also have to support it when it inevitably breaks someone else's content. His solution seems to be the best. If the creator of the server knows how to mod and wants to do it, he should be able to accomplish it. Otherwise, there are plenty of modding tutorials out there. Read up!
