Altering key ability scores for magic?

Post  The Man In The Moon on Mon Aug 04, 2014 4:12 pm

As someone who thought that making Sorcerers' magic Charisma-based was a mistake ever since I first opened up my copy of the 3.0 Player's Handbook 14 years ago (as well as remembering that their magic was Intelligence-based when they made their "pre-screening" debut in Baldur's Gate 2), I'd like to be able to make their magic and that of Warlocks Intelligence-based. I am strictly a "stay-at-home" Neverwinter Nights 2 player, and since Kaedrin evidently only does stuff for a very limited audience now, I'd like to know how I can make this tweak (as well as others, like maybe consolidating Favored Soul magic into Charisma and Spirit Shaman into Wisdom) on my own, if it's at all possible, as well as what unintended ramifications it might have and how to avoid them (I was thinking make the alternative score an option in character creation that was not the default so NPCs of such classes don't inadvertently fall on their faces).

download http://nwn2datlkeditor.codeplex.com/
in kaedrins mod inside your override folder open the core 2da folder and find the classes.2da file
using that editor change the primary magic attribute to whatever desired.

Thanks - does it include a way to "consolidate" required ability scores (i.e. so Spirit Shamans and Favored Souls need only focus on Wisdom OR Charisma, rather than both), and to make altered ability requirements an optional dichotomy (a la choosing a Ranger's Combat Style) so, for example, NPC Sorcerers who were created with high Charisma but middling Intelligence don't wind up powerless?

line 55 spirit shaman would appear to list already wisdom as primary ability and wisdom as its spell ability
line 58 favored soul seems to list wisdom as primary ability and charisma as spell ability
so just change it to whichever ability score you want.
adding in a feat to make the altered ability use an option would be something a coder would need to explain - i havent a clue.
